Adding Value - the challenge of new opportunities
The changing circumstances of employment, and of opportunities, lead many of us to find an enduring brand for our services, of lasting value. This blog will explore this and some other topics, as we all contribute to a great discussion. Welcome!
Yes, I see this as increasingly important. It used to be that if you had a long tenure at a large company, your value and contributions were known (or knowable, via personnel files) to those who might want to use your skills for them. But now, with many of us working short-term contracts (or on long-term contracts that suddenly lose their scope or funding), there isn't that same repository of our professional valuation for a new employer to consult. In fact, for legal reasons, most employers will only verify the dates of your employment, and whether you are eligible for rehire.
Anyone who can come up with a personal branding model or architecture (and not be just self-serving), will add something of value for us all.
I enjoy thinking and writing about the human factors in communication, comprehension and usability, and how our unique gifts can contribute to greater good for us all.
I like the idea; "branding" may become critical in the days to come. It'll be interesting to see what kinds of things you post here.
